Are You Ready?

Cardinals Concessions are back!!

This is a great fundraising opportunity to support our band programs.
Won’t you join us?

Last year we earned over $8000 with the Cardinals.
With your help, we can top that this year
!

The Band Boosters will be participating in a fundraiser through SportService. Each stand requires a minimum of 12 workers (8 cashiers, 2 prep, 1 runner, 1 banker.) Workers must be 21 years of age. Arrival time is 3 ½ hours prior to game time. All games earn 9% commission on net sales, except as noted. Please respond to me with the dates you are available. Hopefully, we can come up with two core teams of volunteers.

Please contact one of the following if you are interested in helping our bands!

Sally Lay, Band Booster President (314-603-7513 or 636-942-4743)

Brett Myers, Director of Bands: 636-789-0000, x 1314

Tim Dedert, Assistant Director of Bands: 636-789-0000, x 2501

Kevin Blair, Assistant Director of Bands:636-789-0000, x 1304 & 2501

Please respond with your availability for both game and training dates.

More volunteers means a larger concession stand
and that means more $$$$$$ for the Hillsboro Bands!

TRAINING
:

Training is required before anyone can work in a stand. All trainings are held from 6-9 p.m. at Busch Stadium. We do not have to go together to training, but I would suggest we try to limit ourselves to two training dates so that we all hear the same message.

(Please contact Sally Lay to set up a training date).

TRAINING DATES:

More training dates have been added for working concessions at Busch Stadium. Remember, our band program receives 8.5% of the net profit earned in the concession stand! Help us support your child’s band program by volunteering today!

VOLUNTEER PARKING:

We have received approval from Nestle Purina to allow the band boosters to park on the Purina guarded lot for our Cardinal baseball games.

You'll need to enter the parking lot from the 7th Street & Gratiot entrance (which is back by Al Hrabosky's). And drive through the gates onto Danforth Drive (see Campus Parking Map).

** Notice that there are two guard shacks at this time.... We are under construction and the first guard shack will soon be manned (or have the intercom), and the second will be eliminated. If the guard is in the shack, please speak directly with them, instead of using the intercom. **

For evening and weekend games, you can park in Lot 6. You can enter Busch Stadium at Gate 3 to volunteer. It's difficult to get to Gate 6 from Purina - but they told us at training Gate 3 was also acceptable.

For day games, you can park in lots 18, 19 or 20. (It's a little more of a walk, but it's free.....)

We are not limited to the number of cars, so you won't have to carpool, if you don't want to.

See Valerie Rhodes or Sally Lay for entrance password.

TIPS & SUGGESTIONS for Cardinals' Concessions Volunteers

  • Eat before you get to the ballpark. Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Bring an ink pen. Bankers should also bring a small calculator.
    DO NOT FORGET YOUR ID.
  • Leave Hillsboro at least 5 hours prior to game time. This seems very early, but you need extra time to park, walk to the stadium, check-in and get to your stand, especially if it’s your first time. Once at the stand, there is a lot of work to be done prior to opening. Concessions stands open 1 ½ hours prior to game time – you have to be ready!!
  • If you park at Purina, allow time for the walk to the stadium and then through the stadium and down to the training room. You will sign in at the gate, but your official “Check In time” is not until you sign in down in the training room and get your shirt and badge. This is the Check In time that we are scored on for bonus payments.
  • Once you have checked in and received your shirt and badge, there may be a brief meeting with the fundraising coordinator before you go to your stand. Afterward, you should go directly, and quickly, to your stand. Bankers should go to the Bank and count/receive the start up cash.
  • Bankers receive their folders at the same time and place as they check in to receive badges and shirts. This folder will have the assigned concession stand number on it.
  • Use two bankers if possible to facilitate the beginning and final counts. The beginning disbursement (~$3000) is made in small bills (ones, fives) and it takes a while to count out. Final counts involve not only small bills, but coins and coupons.
  • We had 12 volunteers and 10 registers, which made it difficult to keep supplies stocked and food (cheese sauce, pretzels, etc.) prepared. 14 volunteers would allow two people to fill food orders while cashiers filled drink orders and thereby serve the customer faster. This would also alleviate some of the congestion behind the counter with ten people trying to fill food orders at the same time. There are 1-2 volunteers working with the cook to wrap hot food.
  • Registers are set up side by side, in sets of two. If cashiers would pair up with the person next to them, they could handle all the bathroom breaks, lunch time, drink time, etc. This way there is never a section of the counter that is unattended and everyone could get a break. One of the two people should always be at the registers.
  • Wiping the counter from the customer side and maintaining the condiment cart should be assigned to one person to ensure it gets done frequently.
  • Have fun!
